Last updated on NOVEMBER 05, 2016

Applies to:

Oracle Application Server 10g Enterprise Edition - Version: 10.1.3.1.0 to 10.1.3.4.0
Oracle Containers for J2EE - Version: 10.1.3.1.0 to 10.1.3.4.0
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

You can shutdown an OPMN managed OC4J instance remotely using the OAS client side distribution's admin_client.jar utility as follows.

java -jar admin_client.jar
 deployer:oc4j:opmn://xxxxx.au.oracle.com:6003/apple
 oc4jadmin welcome1 -shutdown

However once shutdown there is no way to use the same utility to start the container up without using ASC or opmnctl from the server. This article will show you how to start an OC4J container remotely from a J2SE client without any client side required libraries.
