When downloading certain files with Internet Explorer the file is treated as a zip type archive and opened with the registered zip utility rather than opened with the expected application for the file type.
This only happens with Internet Explorer and files of type “.docx”, “.xlsx” and “.pptx”. When using Firefox or other browsers the file is opened with the application registered for the file extension.
If the file is saved to the operating system and then opened locally the expected Office 2007 application is used to open the file.
The issue only occurs when using Internet Explorer to directly open the file through the Item Access link in Portal.
Steps To Reproduce:
- Upload a file created with Office of type .docx, .xlsx or .pptx.
- Attempt to open the item by selecting the item link in Portal using Internet Explorer.
- Files of the type are passed to the registered zip utility.
Other files are passed as expected to their registered utilities.
This problem begins when starting to use Microsoft Office 2007 file types “.docx”, “.xlsx” and “.pptx”.
