OID 10g LDIFWRITE Command Failing with Error "Could not connect to the Database" (Doc ID 748571.1)

Symptoms

This ldifwrite error was faced during setup of Advanced replication on MDS node(Primary node).

1.ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID were set correctly.

2.Connection to ods schema was successful via sqlplus as below with and without domain name in the connect string.

>sqlplus ODS/<ODS_PASSWORD>@oiddb.<DOMAIN>

>sqlplus ODS/<ODS_PASSWORD>@oiddb

3. ldifwrite command was failing with error as below even after using the same ods password as used to connect via sqlplus.

<ORACLE_HOME>/ldap/bin $ ./ldifwrite connect=<OID DB SID> basedn="" ldiffile=<FILENAME>.ldif
This tool can only be executed if you know database user password for OiD
Enter OiD Password ::
Could not connect to the Database.

<ORACLE_HOME>/ldap/bin $ ./ldifwrite connect=<OID DB SID>.<DOMAIN> basedn="" ldiffile=<FILENAME>.ldif
This tool can only be executed if you know database user password for OiD
Enter OiD Password ::
Could not connect to the Database.

4.No ldifwrite.log file was created in <ORACLE_HOME>/ldap/log directory after running the command.
