Username Is Prompted Twice When Try To Login To Sqlplus From Unix Prompt (Doc ID 757313.1)

Symptoms

When attempting to login to SQL*Plus from a command prompt by entering "sqlplus userid/password",
sqlplus prompts again for userid.

For example:

[oracle@hostname lib]$ sqlplus scott/tiger

SQL*Plus: Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production on Mon Dec 8 13:45:01 2008

Copyright (c) 1982, 2005, Oracle. All rights reserved.

Enter user-name: scott
Enter password:

Connected to:
Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production
With the Partitioning, OLAP and Data Mining options
