ORA-12154: iSQLPlus Unable to Connect Using Tnsname.ora, but tnsping/SQL*Plus Okay (Doc ID 758149.1)

Symptoms

Using Database 10g release 10.2.0.1.0 on Sun Solaris x86-64 (64-Bit)

- TNS_ADMIN is pointing to the directory where tnsnames.ora exists.
- Tnsping works fine.
- Able to login using sqlplus (in the same ORACLE_HOME) 
- Able to connect by providing complete connection string in 'Connect Identifier' of isqlplus page.

But isqlplus is unable to connect to the database using connection information specified in tnsnames.ora file. It fails with:

ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified.
