TUX 6.5 - OpenVMS Installation and Configuration -- one installation per machine - CR040419 (Doc ID 767006.1)

Last updated on NOVEMBER 04, 2016

Applies to:

Oracle Tuxedo / Tuxedo / 6,5
Information in this document applies to any platform

Goal

The BEA TUXEDO OpenVMS User's Guide (at Chapter 2, "Logical Names, Group Table" sub-section) mentions that :

Setting logical names in the group table gives you the ability to run multiple versions of the BEA
TUXEDO system on the same platform. Subsequent versions of the BEA TUXEDO system can
be installed under different group tables.

Unfortunately, that is not possible because of the way the PolyCenter Software Installation (PCSI)
utility works. Something that was being done in Engineering during compile/link/install procedures
that allowed developers to test separate builds in parallel got advertised as a general feature.
However, PCSI allows only ONE copy of a product to be installed on a machine.
