RP/TUX 8.1/TUX 9.1 - BRTHREADS=Y causes 'tmadmin' to hang while master migration on failover (Doc ID 777817.1)

Last updated on NOVEMBER 04, 2016

Applies to:

Oracle Tuxedo / Tuxedo / 8.1,9.1
Information in this document applies to any platform

Goal

DESCRIPTION:
When enabling BRTHREADS=Y, you could reproduce a huge delay where 'tmadmin' is only waiting for replies while you try
to execute the commands 'master -yes' and 'pclean <former_master_sid>'.

The included test case was done on a 2CPU HP-UX 11.11 machine with only one TMUSREVT server deployed on each of both
nodes and it already showed a delay of more than 10 minutes.

The amount of delays changes when tuning SCANUNIT, SANITYSCAN, DBBLWAIT, BBLQUERY, and BLOCKTIME and/or deploy more
servers on the machines. When tuning those parameters there is a deferral between where is the waiting time. In the
test case, 'tmadmin' is mainly waiting while the first opening. You could also reproduce significant delays in 'master
-yes' and 'pclean <former_master_sid>' when playing around with some UBBCONFIG parameters.

When setting BRTHREADS=N, 'tmadmin' will open and execute 'master -yes' and 'pclean <former_master_sid>' without
any unusual delay and the same domain will be fail-over in far less than 1 minute.

CONFIGURATION:
HP-UX 11.11 2CPU machine (seems not to be reproducible with only one CPU)
Tuxedo 8.1 64-bit with RP309
Tuxedo 9.1
