Symptoms

Oracle Virtual Directory (OVD) 10g or 11g.

Getting very slow performance and high etime's or dbtime's on OVD access logs, resulting in slowness or hangs for integrated applications.

OVD 11g access.log shows high dbtime, e.g., surpassing ~5,000, for example:

[2017-10-23T18:07:00.982-02:00] [octetstring] [NOTIFICATION] [OVD-20043] [com.octetstring.accesslog] [tid: xx] [ecid: <ECID number>] conn=3,583,283 op=1 SRCH base=dc=<DOMAIN>,dc=com scope=2 filter=(&(objectclass=inetorgperson)(uid=<UID>)) requestedAttributes=[uid, mail, sn, cn, description, orclguid, givenname, telephonenumber, objectclass, displayname] sizelimit=0 timelimit=0 typesOnly=FALSE
[2017-10-23T18:07:02.532-02:00] [octetstring] [NOTIFICATION] [OVD-20044] [com.octetstring.accesslog] [tid: xx] [ecid: <ECID number>] conn=3,583,283 op=1 RESULT err=0 tag=0 nentries=1 etime=1,550 dbtime=1,540 mem=5,366,794,160/8,476,557,312

OVD 10g log for the LDAP search in question can show several seconds delay, e.g., etime of ~93 secs spent in Database query execution, i.e.:

Start Time: 2009-02-04 20:50:59,534 conn=2 op=12 SRCH base="cn=<USERNAME>,ou=People,ou=<OU>,c=<COUNTRY>" scope=0 filter="ObjectClass=*"
End Time: 2009-02-04 20:52:33,033 conn=2 op=12 RESULT err=0 tag=0 nentries=1 etime=*93499* mem=436551072/514523136
