'couldn't open socket: connection refused' or Other Connection Errors When Logging Into ODQ Metabase Manager (Doc ID 791202.1)

Last updated on MAY 12, 2017

Applies to:

Oracle Data Integrator - Version 10.1.3.4.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.
The cases in this Note should also apply to ODQ 11g as though there are some changes made to ODQ install, its architecture is still the same.

Symptoms

When trying to log into the Metabase Manager, a window pops up with an error like the one below:

Server connection failed

couldn't open socket: connection refused

Server connection failed

couldn't open socket: invalid argument

Or after starting Metabase Manger and enter madmin as user and enter the password, click on Ok, the following error occurs and user can't log into Metabase Server:

An unexpected error has occured. Please review the Windows Event log for more info
Retry Cancel

Right click on My Computer>Manage>Event Viewer>Application
the following error is shown:

An unexpected error has occurred. Please refer this information to Trillium Software support.
Description: broken pipe
File: .\Repository.cpp
Line: 156
Stack:

invoked from within
"::com::avellino::remote::remote create -maxevents 0 -socket xxx.xxxx.xxx.xxx 7600"
invoked from within

Or user can log into Metabase Manager. However, when trying to log into Oracle Data Quality and Profiling, the following error occurs.

Unable to Connect to license Server
An Unexpected error has occured. Please review the windows Event log for more information.

Windows Event log then shows:

An unexpected error has occurred. Please refer this information to Trillium Software support.
Description: couldn't open socket: connection refused
File: .\Repository.cpp
Line: 156
Stack:
couldn't open socket: connection refused
while executing
"::com::avellino::remote::remote create -socket host03 7601"
("eval" body line 1)

Or logging into Meatabase Manger works but nothing happens when you create a Loader Connection.

A final symptom we see with ODQ 11.1.1.3 is that, during installation of ODQ client this error could appear:

INST-07057: error in validating the hostname field value. Entered host is not up and running.
Make sure that the host is up and running.

while the port numbers are correct.
