Getting ORA-01461 With 9i Oracle Database (Doc ID 824636.1)

Symptoms

With Database version 9.2.0.7 following error thrown while inserting characters to a table consist of two varchar2 columns, It occurs with 11g and 10g JDBC drivers, but no issue observed with 9.2.0.8 JDBC driver.
Error : java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01461 : can bind a LONG value only for insert
into a LONG column
at oracle.jdbc.driver.DatabaseError.throwSqlException(DatabaseError.java:112)
at oracle.jdbc.driver.T4CTTIoer.processError(T4CTTIoer.java:331)
at oracle.jdbc.driver.T4CTTIoer.processError(T4CTTIoer.java:288)
