ODI Designer Freezes when Running on Windows 2003 Using Sun JVM 1.4.2_08 (Doc ID 833359.1)

Last updated on JUNE 16, 2022

Applies to:

Oracle Data Integrator - Version 10.1.3.5.0 to 10.1.3.6.10
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Using ODI 10.1.3.5.0 on Windows 2003 and Sun JVM 1.4.2_08 (coming with ODI).

Symptom 1

Some operations requiring pop-up windows to be open on Datastores (such as Constraints > "Insert Key" and Columns > "Insert Column") freeze ODI Designer if Java is in no-console mode (javaw.exe).

The same operation succeeds with ODI Designer started in CONSOLE mode

 - this is to say java.exe is used.

Symptom 2

During reverse engineering of a Table the Set Metadata step hangs on the Operator.

On the Model treeview, some Tables are reversed, but the run in ODI Operator does not successfully run to completion.

Changes

ODI GUIs run on Windows 2003 SP2 operating system
JVM 1.4.2_07 (shipped with ODI)
ODI 10.1.3.5.0 (setup from OTN)

This issue comes from a known JVM bug on Microsoft Windows 2003:
