WCI Portal Hangs When Downloading Large, Gatewayed, Binary Files

When downloading large, gatewayed, binary files (.zip or .exe, for example) through an IIS/.Net installation of WebCenter Interaction portal, the portal may become unresponsive (hang) and the BEA ALI Logger service may report System.OutOfMemoryException messages in the portalserver-log.spy log file. Microsoft Windows Performance Monitor shows the portal worker process sharply increase memory utilization - both in w3wp.exe process private bytes and .net bytes in all heaps. An iisreset of the portal will restore functionality until the problem recurs.
