Symptoms

When executing following JDBC code using JDBC/thin 11.1.0.6  or using any JDBC 10g driver:

DatabaseMetaData dmd = connection.getMetaData();
dbmsProductString = dmd.getDatabaseProductVersion();

and you connect to an 11g database you will get following output:
