The Directory Service was introduced with ALI Portal version 6.5 and provides a centralized LDAP interface for portal components to fetch user data. This is a cleaner approach than accessing the portal's database directly, and more straight-forward than querying the WS Service. Note that the Directory Service is primarily used by other components within the portal ecosystem (e.g. the Notification Service). However, it may be necessary to connect to the Directory Service to diagnose technical issues.
In this note, we will step through the process of connecting to the Directory Service via Apache's 'Directory Studio' and query a user, given a UUID.
