Micro and Degree Symbols Display as Wrong Characters from Command Line SQL*Plus (Doc ID 945448.1)

Symptoms

When running a query that returns the special characters (degree symbol and micro symbol),
the incorrect characters are displayed when the query is run from sqlplus.exe. However, the characters
display correctly when run from Sqlplusw.exe, Forms, and SQL Developer.

Steps To Reproduce:

  1. Open a command line prompt on Windows.
  2. Start character-based SQL*Plus using command:   sqlplus.exe
  3. Connect to the database.
  4. Run the query to display the degree and micro characters.
  5. Incorrect characters are displayed, as shown below:
