Symptoms

Trying to check in a file into a folder/collection that already contains an item with the same file name fails with  the following error message:

Invalid Metadata for '<ContentID>'. Item with name '<filename>' already exists in folder '<folderpath>'.

The Content Server log or error message detail may show the following stack trace:

intradoc.common.ServiceException: !csCollectionInvalidMeta,12345!csCollectionContentAlreadyExists,filename.txt,/foldername/at intradoc.server.ServiceRequestImplementor.buildServiceException(ServiceRequestImplementor.java:1742) at intradoc.server.Service.buildServiceException(Service.java:1997) at intradoc.server.Service.createServiceExceptionEx(Service.java:1991) at intradoc.server.Service.createServiceException(Service.java:1986) at collections.CollectionUserHandler.canPlaceInCollection(CollectionUserHandler.java:2553) at collections.CollectionUserHandler.canPlaceInCollection(CollectionUserHandler.java:2589) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(Native Method) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(NativeMethodAccessorImpl.java:39)...

This error can also occur when replicating content that is in a folder from one system to another. This usually due to content being contributed directly on the other system that is being replicated to.
