Binary Property Value of Nested Type lost after updating string property on parent type Details (Doc ID 985278.1)

Symptoms

Create a content type with a nested type property including a binary values. When updating a string property on the parent type, the binary values on the nested type are gone with the following exception: An error occurred while attempting to download the file. Use the browser back button to continue working.
Following exception is logged in the server logs:

com.bea.content.RepositoryException: No binary value could be found for property. Repository: BEA Repository Property ID: 14002/Image.Content/14006 at com.bea.content.manager.internal.InternalNodeOpsBean.getPropertyBytes(InternalNodeOpsBean.java:1750) at com.bea.content.manager.internal.InternalNodeOpsBean.getPropertyBytes(InternalNodeOpsBean.java:1962)
