Technicians Going Out Of Range In a Mobile Workforce Management Configuration Without Integrated AVL/GPS (Doc ID 1056956.1)

Last updated on DECEMBER 03, 2012

Applies to:

Oracle Utilities Mobile Workforce Management - Version 1.4.5 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

The user consistently experiences issues where Mobile Workstation (MW) users go Out of Range in the MWM system that is not configured to use the integrated Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL)/GPS functionality. This occurs even in areas where radio coverage is available. It takes significant effort to get the application to recognize that the hand held device needs to reconnect. This typically requires shutting down the hand held devices, forcing log offs from the application, etc.

In this case, Server.exe logs will include messages for all crews affected as follows:

WARN|08:42:55|3148|CrewOutOfRange ICD was generated for Crew [CREWNAME] since
Avl report not received before timeout. (XThreadSvAvl::ProcessAvlCrewList)

This problem is causing significant productivity loss with both our field technicians and our work force planning analysts as they cannot communicate with each other through the system.
