Notes Greater Than 255 Characters in Demantra are not Saved Even Though There are no Error Messages Presented to the User

Symptoms
Client on v7.1.0.1 enters in a note into a Demantra worksheet that is > 255 characters and receives no notice that it failed to save (re-running the worksheet reveals that the note is gone).
The following error is observed in the Collaborator.log

java.sql.SQLException: ORA-12899: value too large for column "XXX"."NOTES"."NOTE_DESC" (actual: 263, maximum: 255)
