The customer is a Communications Service Provider (CSP) providing CDMA mobile services in North America. As is the case with other CSPs, they set out to tackle two business challenges that are of high importance to them:

• Business Continuity – Uninterrupted service fulfillment and delivery is important because it has a direct impact on their customers’ satisfaction.
• Future-proof Systems – A system that will scale to support their anticipated rapid growth, so they can avoid incurring large additional expenditures as their business grows.

UIM was the product of their choice to overcome the stated challenges. The following sections provide a glimpse of how UIM was utilized to implement a highly available and scalable inventory management system.

Note that this article only describes the High Availability (HA) on the UIM and WebLogic layer. It does not explain how to achieve the HA on top of the hardware perspective.
