Unable to Run Database Scripts with Oracle 11gR2 Client

Symptoms
When using an 11gR2 client to run them, the database creation scripts fail. At first they appear to run successfully but then they hang updating part of the schema. The same problem does not occur on 11gR1.
This can occur with any database script which attempts to update a LOB field. We have seen this at a minimum with the following scripts:
buildora.cmd
addMDM.cmd
genAuditTrgs.wsf
addLSG.wsf
Also various interim update scripts which update CLOB fields
