We have the out of the box AERS 4.7 Case Rules and Scoring Algorithms and the one that is causing us a problem is the AE_CLIN_STUDY rule.
The expression being evaluated is:
RF_AE AND RF_CL AND ((RF_STUDY AND RF_PATIENT) OR (RF_NOSTUDY AND RF_PATIENT AND RF_CENTER))
The rules RF_STUDY, RF_PATIENT and RF_CENTER only evaluates where
field 'IS NOT NULL' and RF_NOSTUDY evaluates where study 'IS NULL'.
For any case where the Adverse_event_flag = 'Y' and PRIMARY_REPORT_SOURCE = 'C' the duplicate case is only checking if the values of STUDY, PATIENT and CENTER are present (or not for RF_NOSTUDY).
Therefore pretty much any new case where study and patient are entered is flagged as a duplicate case.
Is there a way to modify the rules so that they evaluate to a range of values or do we need to deactivate some of the scoring fields?
Ideally we would like the duplicate case check to not flag cases as duplicates where Adverse_event_flag = 'Y' and PRIMARY_REPORT_SOURCE = 'C' and study = 'STUDY A'
but the value of patient varies. Is there a way to so this or do we need to set up multiple rules?
