Messaging Server System Performance and Many Threads Blocked for IO (Doc ID 1301116.1)

Symptoms

Some normal OS commands are slow to respond: for example cd to any directory can take 20 or 30 seconds.  The number under the 'b' column in the output from vmstat is consistently high.  Messaging protocol response time (eg SMTP, IMAP, POP) can be slow.  Duration of commands like imexpire can be longer than expected.

Changes

Normal usage load increased over the life of the system.
