Getting Started
Oracle Communications Instant Messaging Server Release 10.0.1 is the latest version of Instant Messaging. You can upgrade from release 9.0.x or 10.0 to 10.0.x. Oracle Communications Instant Messaging Server provides a secure, real-time communication and collaboration system, combining presence awareness with instant messaging capabilities, for communications service providers. Use Instant Messaging Server to create XMPP-based services, use client-to-client voice chat, enable mobile presence services, and access SIP/SIMPLE networks. The documentation links below all refer to this latest release unless otherwise noted.
- Installing Instant Messaging Server is documented here.
- Oracle Communications Instant Messaging Server Release 10.0.1.x system requirements are documented here.
- The latest Java 7 or 8 version downloads are found in MOS using the Patch tab and Filters: Product is Java SE JDK and JRE; Release is one of Oracle JDK 1.7.0, Oracle JDK 1.8.0; Show recommended patches only is True; Exclude superseded patches is True; Here is the direct link.
- UCS compatibility matrix: Oracle Unified Communications Compatibility Matrix (Doc ID 2225515.1).
Beginning in June 2015, UCS software is delivered as three separate products - Oracle Communications Messaging Server, Oracle Communications Calendar Server, and Oracle Communications Instant Messaging Server. Each product download enables you to download additional software that you have a right to use. For example, the Oracle Communications Messaging Server download enables you to download Oracle Communications Convergence and Oracle Communications Indexing and Search Service software.
As a result of the changes to the packaging of the software, the process for installing UCS software has changed. The commpkg install command no longer installs all UCS software. Instead, you now run commpkg install for each product you are installing. The commpkg script is bundled with each individual product.

To browse or search all Convergence knowledge articles in MOS, switch to the "Knowledge" tab then in the "Knowledge Base" section under "Select a product or product line" you need to choose "Oracle Communications Instant Messaging Server" (the easiest way to do this is to type "Instant Messaging" in the field and select the full product name from the list provided in the drop down). Once the product is correctly selected then clicking on "Search" without entering any search terms should allow the full collection to be browsed. Naturally, entering a search term will restrict the list returned to only articles relevant to that term.
