TCP Ports are Being Allocated Dynamically During Client and Server Communication in ORPOS (Doc ID 1302946.1)

Last updated on OCTOBER 06, 2020

Applies to:

Oracle Retail Point-of-Service - Version 12.0 to 13.3 [Release 12.0 to 13.3]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

In Oracle Retail Point Of Service (ORPOS), the registers are being allocated TCP ports dynamically when they communicate with the store server.  A couple of common ports are used for initial communication (e.g., 1300, 34779) but after that ports are accessed randomly over a large range (36316-60380).  Specific port numbers need to be known and should be configurable.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Start the POS client and server.
  2. Observe random port allocation using a network tracing tool.
