Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Information in this Document has been consolidated and combined in:
Convergence Reports "The Mail Service Is Not Available. Please Try Again Later." or "Authentication Failed" (Doc ID 2049696.1)

Users cannot login to Webmail.  They get "Authentication Failed".

The http log file shows:

IMAP, POP, and SMTP continue to work normally.

Changes

You may not be aware of any changes, but it is likely that the "proxyauth" user or "store.admin" user has had a password change.  If your Directory Server has "password expiration" configured, then many administrative passwords may expire, causing such issues.

In this particular case, the "admin" user's password had been truncated accidentally (human error), causing webmail (Either of the webmail packages that function using the proxyauth mechanism) to be unable to authenticate properly.
