Symptoms
Intermediate mail filtering appliance reports a timeout error and rejects mail to a list with approximately 1500 members.
In environments without such an intermediate device, users might see a very long delay when sending to the mailing list, depending on deployment design.
Or a message might sit on an intermediate MTA for a long time while it tries to relay the message to the MTA which ends up expanding it.

The mailing list grows incrementally over time.
