SMAuto Fails to Start With Error '...unable to allocate -4 bytes...' After Microsoft Windows Security Patch (Doc ID 1354523.1)

Symptoms

The following message is displayed in the SMAuto log files and the application won't start:

No log in screen is displayed and users can't log on to ORS. SMAuto is not starting and the Process Control Daemon (PCD) tries to restart SMAuto continuously.
