ENS Error Reported In Messaging Server Logs: "ENS connection to 127.0.0.1:7997 failed: Connection refused" (Doc ID 1358142.1)

Symptoms


Upon start of the Messaging Server, the following (or similar) error is reported in the Messaging Server logs :

http log:

[13/Sep/2011:15:27:40 +0100] <HOST> httpd[11204]: ENS Error: ENS connection to 127.0.0.1:7997 failed: Connection refused
[13/Sep/2011:15:27:40 +0100] <HOST> httpd[11204]: General Error: iBiff plugin load failed: unable to connect to ENS server



imapd log:

[13/Sep/2011:15:27:40 +0100] <HOST> imapd[11198]: ENS Error: ENS connection to 127.0.0.1:7997 failed: Connection refused
[13/Sep/2011:15:27:40 +0100] <HOST> imapd[11198]: General Error: iBiff plugin load failed: unable to connect to ENS server
[13/Sep/2011:15:27:40 +0100] <HOST> imapd[11198]: ENS Error: ENS connection to 127.0.0.1:7997 failed: Connection refused


popd log:

imta log (ie, the log file of the ims_master and tcp_lmtp_server processes):

The same error can be seen when the mboxutil command is being executed (along with the corresponding log entry):

When checking network connections, the ENS service is not listening on  127.0.0.1:7997, but rather on one specific network interface:

# netstat -an | grep 7997 | grep LISTEN
tcp        0      0 <IP ADD>:7997          0.0.0.0:*                   LISTEN
