Symptoms

When attempting to create a self-signed certificate with certutil in MS6.2, the following error occured :

Generating key. This may take a few moments...

certutil: could not obtain certificate from file: DER-encoded message contained extra unused data.


The separate steps, with respective output, were :

# cd /opt/SUNWmsgsr/sbin
# LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/SUNWmsgsr/lib ; export LD_LIBRARY_PATH
# echo "password" > /export/home/mail/alias/sslpassword
# ./certutil -N -d /export/home/mail/alias -f /export/home/mail/alias/sslpassword
# ./certutil -S -n RootCA -x -t "CT,C,C" \
  -s "c=us,st=state,l=location,o=organization,ou=org unit,cn=my root CA" \
  -m 26000 -v 60 -d /export/home/mail/aliasalias \
  -f /export/home/mail/alias/sslpassword -z /etc/passwd
