Duplicate Messages Sent by Remote MTAs Because of Timeout (Doc ID 1399527.1)

Last updated on MARCH 20, 2024

Applies to:

Oracle Communications Messaging Server - Version 7.0.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

On inbound MTA systems (aka MX servers), the load average is higher than normal (100 to 150 instead of 15) and customers are complaining about duplicate email.  Messages are duplicated, sometimes hundreds of times, causing users to be over quota.

When testing SMTP by doing telnet to port 25, there is a delay of up to 30 seconds between the "." to end the DATA phase and the "250 ok" response from the MTA.

Changes

Recent unsolicited bulk mail (spam) flood.
