Purpose

This document has been migrated from the former Endeca Eden Community and is being provided here as a courtesy to customers. The content in this document is not supported by Oracle Software Support.

Thesaurus entries increase the amount of processing required when specific search requests are submitted. For example, a two-way thesaurus entry between "winery" and "vineyard" means that any query for "winery" actually searches for "winery" and "vineyard". This is referred to as query expansion and can produce desirable results; however, in order to maintain good search runtime performance, it’s important to avoid unnecessary query expansion. This document describes best practices for implementing effective thesaurus entries.
