BCC Login Page Fails to Render and All Requests for BCC Pages Hang with No Error in Logs (Doc ID 1538590.1)

The BCC server hangs and fails to respond to user requests. There are no errors in the logs at the time of the hang. The BCC login page fails to render and all requests for BCC pages hang.

Thread dumps taken during the hang show threads stuck in the following code paths:

The key part of this, besides the RepositoryUserDirectoryImpl.findUserByPrimaryKey() call, is the GSAItemDescriptor.rebuildPropertyDescriptors() call, which is the common code path that is avoided by the suggestion in the solution section below.
