How to Restore Messages from a File System Backup (Doc ID 1544531.1)

Last updated on OCTOBER 10, 2024

Applies to:

Oracle Communications Messaging Server - Version 5.2.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

The end-user has accidentally deleted some messages from a folder, they have been expunged, and impurge has removed them.
There is a file system backup of the message store. How can the messages be restored?

Or, stated another way: I have already restored the messages and done reconstruct, but the user still cannot see the messages.

The message store is not intended to be manipulated directly. The design is to use the imsbackup and imsrestore utilities. But there are other considerations as well. Restoring messages from a file system backup can be problematic because they will likely reappear as already having the deleted flag set, which likely means the user will not be able to see them and they will be removed again as soon as the user does another expunge.
