Messaging Server Intermittently Giving "unknown or illegal alias" Errors For Valid Addresses
(Doc ID 1555621.1)
Last updated on JUNE 13, 2024
Applies to:
Oracle Communications Messaging Server - Version 7.0.0 and laterInformation in this document applies to any platform.
Symptoms
Our primary email domain is <default_domain>, but we have a few dozen other subdomains and other domains hosted in our email system. We recently added <hosted_domain> to our email environment, including adding mailequivalentaddress=<username>@<hosted_domain> aliases to some of our existing users.
Example:
However, this is a VALID address. Most of the email sent to this address is being delivered normally.
I have restarted the MTAs with:
./imsimta cnbuild; ./imsimta restart; and tried stop-msg; and start-msg
but, even after this, the intermittent errors continue.
An imsimta test -rewrite to any of these addresses looks normal, finding the address and routing to the proper message store.
Because of these errors, users in this domain are having trouble receiving email reliably.
Changes
Added <hosted_domain> hosted email domain and added mailequivalentaddress aliases under the @<hosted_domain> domain to several users.
