Goal

This document provides the steps for a local administrator to create an unattended ("silent") installation file for P6 Professional using the p6pro.msi file, that can be pushed to users' computers and run without keyboard/mouse input.

The MSI installation method is provided as an alternative to doing a hands-on interactive P6ProfessionalSetup.exe or p6pro.msi installation on multiple users' computers.  It is intended for use in situations where a company’s security policy limits user permissions on their local computers, preventing them from performing the installation themselves.

As with a manual installation, the unattended setup requires admin rights on the local computer.

The administrator must repeat the process to create and propagate a new unattended installer package after every P6 environment/database upgrade.

This process can also be used to upgrade an existing P6 Professional application to a newer version.

This method is not intended as a general replacement for ClickOnce installations.

Oracle Cloud-hosted customers:

An MSI installer can be requested as an exception to the recommended ClickOnce method in situations where a ClickOnce install process can't be used – for example:

  • A Cloud customer has/wants to install P6 Professional on a Citrix server, so users don’t need the application installed on their own computers. It must be installed via MSI as a ClickOnce installer can’t be used in that situation.

  • Users need access to more than one P6 version.

  • A customer has implemented an especially strict security policy that prevents even a ClickOnce installation from working. In this case P6 must be installed on users’ computers by an administrator using the MSI installer (optionally via the unattended setup method).

A new MSI installation file must be requested and implemented after certain Cloud environment upgrades - for more details see P6 Professional Cloud Version Update Compatibility (Doc ID 2755848.1).
