Email Becomes Unread/Unseen After Running Readership Command

Symptoms
After running "readership -p 2", all mail in mail folders that had not been accessed for 2 months changed from "read" to "unread" ( = loss of the Seen flag).
This occurred for all users and all mail folders, including mail folders that were not shared - i.e. readership removed the Seen flags for all mailboxes that had not been accessed for 2 months or longer.
This is incorrect behavior. From the build-in of the readership command :
The readership -p command should remove the Seen flags only for users who have subscribed to shared folders, and only for those shared folders.
