Goal

You are migrating from ATG 9.x to ATG 10.2.

As part of migration, you have migrated existing promotions data.

But you find that promotions are not displayed as expected in BCC because of the changes in the way promotions are created in ATG 9.x and 10.2.

In ATG 9.x promotions are created with low level promotions type Eg either choose "Item Discount - Percent Off." or " Item Discount - Amount Off"

However in ATG 10.2 promotions are created with high level promotion type Eg choose "Item Discount" type Promotion - and then you can Select amount off or percentage off and it becomes part of PMDL rule.

Because of this change Promotion Template is not available in BCC in ATG 10.2 for migrated promotions.

You have also observed that Promotion PMDL rules' DTD has also changed which forces to change the PMDL rule of 9.x to 10.2.

The following screenshot displays ATG 9.x promotion into 10.2 BCC. You will note that there is only one template to select i.e. Advanced template.

You are therefore considering  the following 3 options.  What are the pros and cons for these options ?

Option 1:
Updating column PROMOTION_TYPE of DCS_PROMOTION column value to high level promotion type i.e Promotion type should equal one of “Item Discount”, “Order Discount”, or “Shipping Discount”

Then convert existing PMDLs to new PMDL based on new PMDL format.

Build custom code to migrate the PMDL files

Option 2:
Not to migrate promotions data and business to re-create all existing promotions using new templates and deploy the project.

Option 3:
Do nothing and use existing promotion the way they have been created in 9.x.
