Attachment in Forwarded Mail Not Opening on iPad/iPhone (Doc ID 1608688.1)

On an iOS device such as an iPad or iPhone, why are you unable to view emails which have been forwarded as attachments, when you can see them correctly when they have been forwarded inline?

Is this a Messaging Server problem?

Steps taken:

  1. Use Mozilla Thunderbird (TB24) to send an email with an attachment
  2. Right click on the email, choose Forward As -> Attachment
  3. Forward it to an iPad mail user
  4. Read the message on iPad
