Endeca Dgraph Performance Issue Related to Response Size But Unclear Why Response Sizes Are Large (Doc ID 1610720.1)

Symptoms

Dgraph response sizes are very large (over 126 MB for some queries) which is causing performance issues on the website.  The number of records per page is modest (10), there are no merchandizing rules being returned on these queries, snippeting is being used to return just the excerpt of matching text from documents instead of the whole property value, and there are no large, flat dimension values being automatically exposed on the query response.  It is unclear what is contributing to this large response size.
