Incoming SMTP Connections Hang (Doc ID 1633967.1)

Symptoms

Incoming mail has stopped. Attempt to telnet to port 25 may show the banner or may hang at that point, depending on how bad the problem has gotten.

Restarting the MTA may allow telnet test to receive the banner, but then when you start to go thru an SMTP dialog, the server does not respond to the MAIL FROM command.

Or it might hang at RCPT TO, depending on your configuration.

 

Changes

In this case, a tcp_smtp_server core dump occurred around time of the beginning of the problem.
