Empty Groups Chat is Only Displayed to The User For That Session

We have a groups chat that contains one member in it's list - i.e. "firefox03". The "firefox03" member is then removed from member group list.
Now, the groups chat is empty. But, why does the empty groups chat still exist in the Instant Messaging Convergence client? It is not until after the user logs out and then logs back into Convergence, that the empty groups have disappeared. Is this normal behavior?
