When a user is editing an article, if the article is updated before changes are checked in they will receive this error message: "This record cannot be updated."
There are two possible causes: 1) It is locked or being updated by another user. 2) It is not the latest version, another user has updated the article in the time that the user started editing the article.
To avoid this issue Oracle Knowledge has a checkin and checkout feature. This will prevent users from editing articles being working on by another user. But if the article is checked out it also has to be remembered to be checked in. Users do have the ability to clear a checkout from another user.
