"Invalid Header" Error Collecting POP Mail From an External Account (Doc ID 1900400.1)

When using Options -> External Accounts -> New Account to try to set up POP collection from another account, on the last step when Convergence tries to collect the mail it shows an error dialog and fails to download the messages:
