This document was provided to announce that MetaSolv Solution 6.2.1 was enhanced with the ability to limit the the number of equipment records retrieved by the Equipment Inventory/Install search windows. Limiting the Number of Equipment Retrieved in Search
Prior to this enhancement, clicking Search in the Equipment Inventory Install/Search
windows retrieved the number of base equipment based on the
query-results-row-limit value specified in the loggingconfig.xml file on the
application server. The default value is 32000. If you increased this value and the
number of base equipment at the specified network location was also large, the
application potentially took a long time to render the equipment treeview and
displayed the out-of-memory error message.
In this enhancement, the new system preference Limit Equipment Inventory Results
to System Retrieval Limit limits the number of equipment retrieved in the Equipment
Inventory Search window to the retrieval limit value specified in the Search Retrieval
Limit system preference.

The Limit Equipment Inventory Results to System Retrieval Limit system preference
has the following options:
■ Y: The Equipment Inventory Install/Search windows retrieve the number of base
equipment based on the retrieval limit value specified in the Search Retrieval
Limit system preference. For example, if the number of base equipment installed
at the network location is 1000, and you specified a retrieval limit value of 500 in
the Search Retrieval Limit system preference, when you click Search in the
Equipment Inventory Install or Equipment Inventory Search window, only 500
pieces of base equipment are retrieved. If a particular piece of equipment is not
present in the retrieved list, you may be required to specify additional criteria to
retrieve that piece of equipment. When adding, copying, moving, or installing a
piece of equipment, the new equipment is added to the currently displayed result
■ N (the default): The Equipment Inventory Install/Search windows retrieve all the
base equipment installed at the specified network location.
The number of equipment retrieved cannot be limited in the following scenarios:
■ When making/modifying equipment assignments within the CLR/DLR view for
virtual connection design
■ Searching for equipment within the Network Grooming module or within DLC
and SONET provisioning
■ Searching for equipment by network node/network element
