Searching Corporate Address Book Displays "Sorry, an error occurred" Instead of Results (Doc ID 1933444.1)

Symptoms

When searching the Corporate Address Book (CAB), a user is confronted with the error "Sorry, an error occurred" in the results window.  This may also happen automatically, when the user enters the Address Book, selects Corporate Directory, and then clicks in the "Display Name or Email" field, without having entered any search criteria.

If we set DEBUG logging on ADDRESS_BOOK and view the iwc.log after reproducing the problem, we may see the following errors:
