Oracle Knowledge Patch Application Tips, Backup And Rollback Procedures (Doc ID 1939125.1)

Last updated on MARCH 26, 2019

Applies to:

Oracle Knowledge - Version 8.5.1 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

Make sure that the environment you are patching for testing is as near to production as possible.  When you test the patch you dont want to think that the system is not giving the correct results because some underlying component or content is different.

Latest code, Crawled Content, Dictionary changes, config and architecture differences can all have impact on testing the patch.  For example:

-- If an updated IM DB is used make sure to follow all the steps of moving the data to ensure accuracy of the testing.  How can I copy or move IM database and content data from production to a Lower Environment?(Doc ID 1039790.1

-- Make sure you are not patching a system with a different config or dictionary as well.  Process for manually copying the vcroot from one instance to another(Doc ID 1039755.1)

What instructions can Engineering provide on the backup procedure that should be performed before applying an Oracle Knowledge patch and what guidance can be given on how to back out a patch should need arise?
