Sender Attaches File to Email, but Recipient Gets Attachment That Is Combination of Contents From Two Files (Doc ID 1942310.1)

Symptoms

Sender composed an email (via a third party mail client) and attached a Word document. The recipient opened the attachment and viewed the document, finding that in addition to the expected contents, the document also contained an image from another document in it (a PDF document which was in the same file directory on the sender's computer as the original attached file).
