SMTP Quit Command After STARTTLS Results In Timeout (Doc ID 1958658.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 03, 2025

Applies to:

Oracle Communications Messaging Server - Version 7.0.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

A mail client connects to the Messaging Server and issues STARTTLS to begin TLS negotiation;  then issues a 'QUIT' command to end the session without completing TLS negotiation.  The Messaging Server does not respond to the client after the QUIT command is issued, and the connection eventually times out.

The QUIT command does not close the SMTP session after "2.5.0 Go ahead with TLS negotiation".

Example SMTP session:

Notice the ten minute delay between STARTTLS and the timeout.  The QUIT command is not logged.
