Information in this document applies to any platform.
When you assign an IP address to an equipment port or a virtual connection, the IP Address Properties window in IP Inventory does not display enough information about the assignment to find what the IP is assigned to. For an IP assigned to a circuit, then window displays no information about the circuit and the Connection Design search window has no criteria for IP address. So if you start with an IP and need to find what it is assigned to, it is impossible to find within the GUI. For an IP assigned to an equipment port, the windows displays information about the piece of equipment where the IP is assigned (equipment name or equipment spec information), but it does not include the location of the equipment. The Equipment Inventory Search window has criteria for IP, but it requires at least a building location to do the search. So if you only have the IP, you cannot find the assigned equipment.
The IP Address Properties window needs to be updated to show:
1) For any IP assigned to a circuit, this window should display the Circuit ID (with the ability to be copy/pasted to the connection design search window)
2) For any IP assigned to equipment, this window should display the location of the equipment.
Ideally, it should return other information from the equipment hierarchy such as Network Element (if applicable) and assigned port to make it easy to find the assignment.
3) For any IP assigned to a service item, we should include the service item name/alias that it is assigned to with the customer to help distinguish what the IP is assigned to.
The best resolution would be to include navigation from this window to whatever the IP is assigned to, but at minimum we should display sufficient information (which can be copied) about the assignment so that the assigned object can be found.
Internet Services Search window - w_nbrinv_info_query
4) Internet Services Search window, for I P Address should be enhanced to reflect above changes, and allow easily search for I P Addresses and assigned
components, including search fields like Network Location, Network Element, Equipment Name, and, may be Company Name.
When you assign IP addresses to circuits and ports, the IP inventory window does not provide sufficient information for a user to find what the IP is assigned to.
So, if a user only has an IP address and needs to find out what it is assigned to, they are unable to find this information in the GUI.
The only way to track down the assignment is to write a SQL query against the database.
The IP Address Properties window needs to be updated to include sufficient information about the assignment so that a user is able to find the assignment in the GUI.
